Waste Trial :  Help Orange City Council decide about the proposed changes to red bin waste collections

Orange City Council is considering a switch to a fortnightly red bin collection, when a new contract starts in April next year.

There’s been a strong community response, so the council is holding a trial to discover if this change could work for Orange residents

You can be a part of this trial if :

  • during a three month period from September to December, you’ll try to use your green and yellow bin more and,

  • you are willing to discover if you and your family can manage with only putting out your red bin once a fortnight. (If it doesn’t work out during the trial, you’ll still be able put out your red bin every week as usual)

  • you are willing to measure your waste routines by filling out a short online diary once a week (on your regular bin-night)

To encourage you to be part of the trial, Orange city Council will :

  • send you easy tips on how to manage your waste

  • give you the chance to win a major prize. Everyone who fills in the diary every week goes in the draw to win a $1500 debit card.

Residents and families who participate in the trial are being asked to discover whether or not they could manage with a fortnightly red bin collection.

During the trial council would also provide waste management tips and suggestions

The council realises there will be challenges for some residences if the red bin changes to a fortnightly service.

Your participation and experiences in this trial will play a role in what decision Council makes next year.

You can register now for the trial online.

How will the trial work?

TO BEGIN ..

Register online for the trial.

These registration details (such as family size, type of residence and number of children in nappies) are designed to show which residents may need to take advantage of one of the additional user-pays waste collection options.

You will be sent information and waste management tips about how to use your yellow and green bin more and your red bin less.

IT STARTS IN SEPTEMBER

The trial will be held over 12 weeks beginning 14 September.

The aim is to see if you can only put your red bin out every fortnight, instead of every week. (If it doesn’t work out during the trial, you’ll still be able put out your red bin every week as usual)

FILL IN THE WEEKLY DIARY

Every week, on the day of your regular ‘bin-night’ you’ll be sent an email, which will include a link to a simple online diary/survey.

Simply click on the link, add your log-in number, and you’ll be asked which bins were put out for collection each week, how full they were, and some other easy questions.

FILL IT IN TO WIN

You have to complete and submit the online survey every week during the trial to qualify to be in the prize-draw for the $1500 prize.

If you are away on holidays during the trial, it's important to remember to plan for a way to fill in the survey every week while you are away (making it clear that no bins were put out that week because you were on holiday).
